Hip & Knee Reconstruction

Jimmy Chow
Jimmy Chow, MD

Dr. Chow is a board certified hip and knee specialist with dual-fellowship training in Adult Reconstruction “total joints” and Arthroscopic “sports” Surgery.

Dr. Chow is a partner at the Hedley Orthopaedic Institute in Phoenix, AZ. He is the Director of Orthopaedics: Hip & Joint Surgery for Phoenix St. Luke’s Medical Center, where he serves as faculty for both ACGME (USA) and ISAKOS (international) fellows. Dr. Chow has been named the “Physician of the Year” for 2014 by the AZ Business Magazine and appointed as one of the influential “40 under 40” for 2013 by the Phoenix Business Journal.

Dr. Chow has been a key inventor of the SuperPATH® total hip procedure, which is a hybrid combination of two tissue-sparing techniques: PATH® (created by Dr. Brad Pennenberg) and SuperCap™ (created by Dr. Stephen Murphy). The first SuperPATH® procedures were performed in September 2008 as a collaboration between Dr. Chow, Dr. Harbinder Chadha & Dr. William Kurtz. These surgeons have been credited with the inception of SuperPATH®. Dr. Chow’s work in technique and tooling design is now patent pending, and comprises key components of SuperPATH’s current form. He has lectured internationally regarding his experience with microinvasive total hip replacement, and he routinely trains surgeons on the technique. As of September 2014, Dr. Chow has performed over 1,000 SuperPATH® total hip procedures.

Dr. Chow was Arizona’s first robotic knee surgeon, performing Arizona’s first Makoplasty partial knee resurfacing in 2010.  He has helped launch multiple technologies in total knee replacement from several companies, including computer prenavigation, or “patient-matched”, technologies, as well as state-of-the-art knee replacement designs.  He continues to lecture and teach internationally on the topics of minimally invasive, tourniquet-less, and rapid-recovery knee replacement.

Currently Dr. Chow is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Academy of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the International Society of Arthroscopy for Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and the International Society for Computer Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery.  He also serves on the regional board for the Arthritis Foundation, and sits on the board of directors for the Orthopaedic Research Foundation of Southern Illinois.
